Gifhorn Castle

When the Gifhorn SCD club used to run its prestigious weekend workshops under the aegis of the late Susanne Hegel, the ball would take place in the vaulted and be-columned hall of Gifhorn Castle. Gifhorn is in the north of Germany, north of Brunswick and east of Hanover, and apart from the castle features a windmill museum.

I went to the Gifhorn weekend to play the piano several times (although usually for the “beginners' class” in a side room while the good dancers would avail themselves of the services of a famous pianist from the UK in the big hall) but on two separate occasions I only found out that I was supposed to come from the fact that my name was printed on the invitation flyer!
