The moated castle of Mespelbrunn is one of the beauty spots of the Spessart forest south-east of Frankfurt, even if it is a bit crowded in summer. Around the castle are various opportunities for walks, which are far less crowded than the area around the castle. The castle itself is still inhabited but some parts can be visited (we didn't). There is quite a good restaurant near the car park.
