Feengrotte in Saalfeld, Thuringia

This picture was taken inside the Feengrotte (»fairy cave«) near Saalfeld, Thuringia. This is not so much a natural cave but really an old(ish) slate mine, where the impressive stalactites and stalagmites have formed within a space of a few hundred years. The cave takes almost an hour to visit, and this particular part of it features in a (somewhat kitschy but still impressive) »son et lumière« show.

I took this photograph with the Digital IXUS using available light only, and no additional image processing was done. I continue to be surprised at what that camera can do.
